Pork Meatballs with Thai Dipping Sauce

Looking for a fun Asian inspired appetizer for your next book club, dinner party, or family gathering?  Look no further than these Pork Meatballs with Thai Dipping Sauce. 

They are easy to make and packed with explosive sweet and salty flavors. While the sauce is the perfectly tangy and refreshing, the meatballs are crispy on the outside, gooey on the side.

And you have options — I like to make them as finger food (or in our post-covid days, bites we use toothpicks to eat from). But you could also pile a bunch over a bowl of rice and greens for a hearty meal.  

You can also air fry, bake, or pan fry the meatballs while simultaneously whisking together the Thai dipping sauce so it’s quick and easily accessible. I am an avid air fryer user so I usually go that route if it’s just Nick and I, but when making larger batches, it may be easier to bake since the surface area is larger. Having said that… make double or triple the recipe! Once you combine the ingredients, the longest cook time process is rolling the balls so it’s really no sweat of your back.

INGREDIENTS

For the Meatballs —

1 lb. Ground Pork

½ White Onion

½ cup Green Onions

¼ cup GF Breadcrumbs

2 cloves minced Garlic

2 tsp. Paprika

Salt & Pepper

For the Dipping Sauce —

¼ cup Tamari Soy Sauce

¼ cup Rice Vinegar

2 tbsp. Sesame Oil

2 cloves minced Garlic

1 tbsp. Sesame Seeds

2 tbsp. Diced Green Onions

1 tsp. Red Chili Pepper Flakes

INSTRUCTIONS

For the pork meatballs – 

  • Chop onion and green onions into small pieces.
  • Combine onions with ground pork, breadcrumbs, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper.
  • Using your hands or a large spoon, roll ground pork mixture into 2-inch meatballs.
  • Cook in the air fryer at 400° for 8 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • *Alternatively, heat oil in a nonstick pan and pan fry the meatballs 2-3 minutes each side or bake at 400F for 15-20 minutes.

For the dipping sauce –

  • Combine all ingredients and whisk until combined.
  • Set aside until the meatballs are finished.
  • Enjoy!
