Another Southern tradition for you with this one! As tradition/folklore/superstition has it – the first thing one should eat on New Year’s Day is black eyed peas. It will bring you good luck and prosperity for the new year.

Clearly not enough people ate their black eyed peas this year! Regardless we will try again this year.
Some families like to make soup, others stew or rice/beans but in my family, it was always Black Eyed Pea Dip… with loads of sausage of course. It’s perfect for yet another lazy holiday on the couch, watching the parades and setting intentions for the new year.
Obviously we like to scoop this hearty dish up with Fritos because why not? It’s the best combination of crunchy, salty chips and warm, gooey dip that will fill you up and hopefully bring you good luck. I like to make it once a year to keep it a special holiday tradition but by all means… make it for EVERY football Sunday. It’s a great addition to the football food lineup and goes down well with a cold beer.
Enjoy!
