Well hello there friends, family, and supporters!
Things may be looking a little different around here at Sip.Cook.Enjoy. headquarters… a much needed, much avoided website migration from Wix to WordPress has been on my to-do list for at least a year. But while the benefit of WordPress is longevity, searchability, and functionality, the downside is I had to learn a much tougher interface. I also refuse to pay anyone to build it for me so I am learning as I go and it has been a doozy! Especially for someone like me who gets so invested in a project that I want to complete it in one sitting. I am not a “little bit everyday” kind of girl. So here we are, please bare with me if not everything runs as smoothly on the site in the next coming months.
I said I’d try not to ramble as much before getting to the good part – the recipe! – but as I’ve reflected over the why am I doing this in my spare time since it’s initial 2020 covid launch, I have come to a few conclusions.
1) I am not an influencer, nor am I trying to be. I am not cut out for playing the social media game.
While I may have been in between jobs and this would be great if it magically equated to liveable income, I started it because I was cooking 7 days a week as opposed to the 3-4 after 12+ hour work days. I am not great at writing recipes down and my family is always asking me to remake meals, so instead of scrolling through magazine clippings like my mom, I could come here for inspiration and honestly… to remember my favorites.
2) I need to live somewhere with natural sunlight and a kitchen bigger than a sink, stove, and one counter.
I only have the capacity to cook and take a *semi* good-looking food photo once a week. I stand by the flavors and the recipes all day and still cook these meals 5 days a week. But I don’t have enough sunlight, space, or time in the middle of the day to dedicate to the photography bit of running a full-time blog. My neighbors laugh at my weekly frenzy to cook and take a photo on the tiny front porch before our apartment descends into darkness. So maybe one day, but not now.
3) Despite all the reasons why this isn’t worth my time, it really truly is. I absolutely love cooking, I absolutely love cooking for others, and I absolutely love the satisfaction when friends and family enjoy it.
So as I start the scary process of re-posting and re-working the hundreds of recipes I archived on the old blog, just to find out, I couldn’t transfer over here, I’ll share with you my little helper – a tasty adult beverage! This one is those guys and girls who love the texture of a slushie… but make it boozy. Enjoy!
